The Telegraph, Darjeeling, Dec 17: The GNLF MLA from Darjeeling has demanded the deployment of additional forces in the hills because of the frequent clashes centering around the Sixth Schedule status.
The MLA, Pranay Rai, is currently in Calcutta where the Assembly is set to discuss the special status tomorrow.
“I have raised the issue of the frequent clashes and the general sense of insecurity among the hill people in the Assembly. Though police have been doing a commendable job, additional deployment of forces is a must,” Rai said over the phone from Calcutta.

Siliguri, Dec. 17: GNLF chief Subhas Ghisingh has warned the Bengal chief minister of the consequences if the Sixth Schedule amendment bill conferring special status to the Darjeeling hills is not passed in Parliament in the budget session.
In case of a delay, Ghisingh said, it would be difficult for him to restrain his party supporters, some of whom are already harping on Gorkhland out of “frustration”.

Statesman News Service, SILIGURI, Dec. 17: The GNLF chief Mr Subash Ghisingh today predicted unrest in the Darjeeling hills if not included in the Sixth Schedule. Mr Ghisingh, also the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council caretaker administrator, came down from Darjeeling to Siliguri to meet chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who is halting here tonight after attending a party conference at Maynaguri in Jalpaiguri district in the day.
“The Darjeeling Sixth Schedule Bill must be passed in the Budget Session of the Parliament. Failure to materialise it would result in acute frustration in the hills and a frustrated people can go to the extent of burning down properties and hurting the near ones,” Mr Ghisingh said after meeting the chief minister this evening.

The Statesman, KURSEONG, Dec. 17: Following the invitation issued by the Parliamentary Standing Committee to the political parties of Darjeeling hills for opinion on the proposed special status to Darjeeling hills, a beehive of activity has begun among the organisations against the proposed Sixth Schedule status for the Darjeeling hills.
Although there is no response from the GNLF and the CPI-M, who are in favour of the Sixth Schedule status, the GJM, CPRM, GRC, AIGL and GNLF-C are engaged in last minute discussions before the present their case before the PSC in Delhi.
