Kurseong, Jan. 9: Around 700 members of the DYFI here switched allegiance to the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha headed by Bimal Gurung, the zonal secretary of the CPM’s youth front claimed today.
They surrendered their party flag at a programme held at the Morcha office on Monteviot Road here this morning.
“We have not joined the Morcha to become office bearers. Neither are we hungry for posts. The Morcha’s demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland brought us here. We believed in the CPM ideology but at the same time we love our community and its aspirations,” said Mohan Lama, who till yesterday was the secretary of the Kurseong Zonal Committee of the DYFI.

Gangtok, Jan. 9: Sikkim governor Sudarshan Agarwal today issued a stern warning to the authorities of Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial Hospital (STNM) for their failure to properly maintain the facility.
“I am very unhappy. Don’t let things slip out of hand,” the governor told hospital superintendent R.L. Sharma just before he concluded a two-hour tour of the entire facility.
Agarwal was apparently peeved by the condition of the road connecting the state hospital to the national highway. “Are there no engineers with STNM?” he asked. When told that the hospital has an engineering cell, the governor wanted to know what it was doing about the road.

Siliguri, Jan. 9: Political outfits clamouring for Kamtapur have hurriedly lined up a series of programmes to mount pressure on the Centre for a separate state.
The move comes in the wake of reports that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is toying with the idea of a Second State Reorganisation Commission to look into the demands for new states.
However, Atul Roy, the president of the Kamtapur Progressive Party, like many others rallying for a separate state — for instance some of the parties in the Darjeeling hills supporting Gorkhaland — appeared not to know that the idea of the commission was still in a nascent stage.
