Chattrey undershadow with the raising of Gorkahland demand

Gangtok: With the raising of the demand of Gorkhaland and removal of Subash Ghising from DGHC, Chattrey Subba, the forefront leader and the stalwart supporter of Gorkhaland is under shadow. Chattrey Subba according to his family source is languishing in the jail for seven years without any judicial trial. He is accused for attacking Ghising. Ghising was attacked at Tinghumti near Kurseong while coming from Delhi. Along with Mr. Chattrey Subba five other members Mr. Gunjoy Lama(Kurseong),Mr. Saran Dewan(Kurseong), Mr. Bijoy Chettri(Kalimpong), Mr. Kumar Chettri( Chitrey) and Mr. Shyam Karki( Malli) are also kept in Jalpaiguri Central Jail.Some stakeholders say that it is the opportune moment to demand the early disposal of Chattrey case along with the raising the demand of Gorkhaland. They say that Chattrey Subba was the first person who dared to take on Ghising and his councilor by issuing threat letters to quit their post in order to stop the atrocities of Ghising.

On the other hand the source says that some month back the youth wing of CPRM, a major opposition of the hills, had staged dharna and demonstration at the precinct of Jalpaiguri session court through which some public opinion for the early release of Chattrey Subba was forming as well as some pressure had been creating upon West Bengal government. But now not any pressure has been created against the government and Chattrey Subba and his members who had sacrificed themselves for interest of Indian Gorkhas are being kept without trial.

The stakeholder also has the opinion that Mr. Amar Lama, the former Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha league General Secretary, member of current member of GJMM and an advocate of Darjeeling, who had also spent a year with Chattre Subba in jail, acquitted to the case, is also at the receiving end of the repressive rule of west Bengal government. He was also a representative during Budha – Bimal dialogue held on 26 February at Writers. He should also have raised the demand of the early disposal of case of Chattrey Subba, opines a stakeholder.

Besides, if Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha include the demand of the release of Chattrey in their political agenda, this will give more mileage to them as well as it will go more popular among grass root level, source says
