Asok flays GJMM

SILIGURI, 8 June: The state urban development minister Mr Asok Bhattacharya today criticized the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha leadership for inciting violence in the plains of the Darjeeling district. Referring to today’s violent incidents at Bagdogra, Mr Bhattacharya said that the GJMM was responsible for these. “The police exercised utmost restraint given the trying situation,” he asserted. He further alleged that the GJMM was trying its utmost to create an ethnic divide between the hills and the plains for sensationalizing its agitation. “Divisive and provocative slogans are being raised at the fasting sites. The local people have been provoked into reacting to its incessant sectarian statements against other communities,” the state minister said. [The Statesman]
