Rajeev hails from a Gorkha family of Bakloh, HP. Later the family shifted to nearby Chamba.

Bakloh is another HP Gorkha town like Dharamshala. Just as in 1861, the First Gorkha Rifles settled in Dharamshala. Similarly the 4th Gorkha Rifles settled in Bakloh in 1866.

Dear Barun, I will posting an interview i had with rajeev soon. He is very proud and happy to be a Gorkha.

Please vote for him and let the world know that North East to Northwest the Gorkhas are alive and kicking. The new brand of achievers!

  2. rahul Says:

are you guys going to demand for a gorkhaland in HP soon? why not? and why leave out parts of UK as well!! there are sizeable gorkha settlements in these parts. and HP wand kumaon/garhwal were part of the nepali kingdom as well.

  3. Jyoti T M Says:

This has been mentioned for the first time by you. So you are now recorded for this.

I advise that you refrain from being a deshdrohi and a troublemaker if you really are an Indian and not some aspiring NRI who wants to go to abroad to become rich helping them to progress while creating a bornfire in yr motherland.

  4. PPA Says:

Rahul - why do you find it necessary to pass obnoxious remarks whenever you can?

Your comment is so unrelated to the post that it gives me the impression that you have a vendetta. Are you seeking revenge of some sort that you are so bitter always - in every context?

You do seem awful juvenile so, its difficult to take you seriously about anything.

  5. Jyoti T M Says:

All lovers of folk music from the hills pl vote for Rajeev Thapa Chamba the Himachali Gorkha.

We are proud to be Himachalis from Himachal Pradesh just as HP is proud of their Gorkhas who have brought name and fame to the state, countless war decorations, countless martyrs, about a hundred Gorkhas in the Azaad Hind Fauz from Himachal, INA Late Capt ram Singh Thakur born in Dharamshala-song and tune writer of India’s most patriotic songs and birth place of the famous Gorkha soldiers all over India and UK.

The Himachal Prdesh govt also released a stamp and first day cover on Master Mitrasen Thapa born and died in Dhaarmshala. Medals galore including Param Vir Chakras, Mahavir Chakras,Sena medals, Seva medals etc earned by Himachal born Gorkhas.

The Himachal govt has named a school and road after Master Mitrasen Thapa. Recently, the HP govt has named a primary school in the name of Kargil martyr 21 year old Amit Thapa. A fabolous park with a bronze bust has been opened in the memory of late Brig Sher Jung Thapa, Mahavir Chakra. In the list of Dharamshala’s 11 eleven most famous citizens, there are five Gorkha names alongwith the Dalai Lama. And so on and so on. The ancient temple of BhagsuNag (Shiva temple) from where the town recd its name Dharamshala because of the pilgrims who trekked to this holy place is now officially acknowledged as a Gorkha Regt heritage. In 1905 earthquake, the ancient temple was razed to the ground. The Gorkhas rebuilt it with thei own momey and labour.

We are happy and proud being Himachalis.
J& K is also proud of their Gorkhas
Uttarkhand has also honoured many deserving Gorkhas of their state. The State ASI has also build a fabulous garden and memorial to highlight the Gorkhas bravery in the Anglo-Gorkha 1814 battle in Dehradun

Even the UP Police Force honoured INA capt ram singh Thakur who joined then after the INA got disbanded. They gave him a state funeral on his death.

What has WB done for the Nepali-speaking? There is no dearth of heroes and achievers from the North-east. Dear rahul it is yr govt which is responsible for the demand for Gorkhaland because Communism has made them inhuman, radical and blinkered. And cretaed citizens with hard minds like yrs. Communists have no emotions for heritage, ethnicity or cultures. They try to create a new world of manmade clones customised and indioctrined with the idealogies created by one Mao or Marx or Lenin. Who are they against the very creations of time and nature?

Rahul, my friend, you are an ass. How could u become the GM of Radio Mirchi? U don’t have bloody sense. U have started talking crap, absolute nonsense.

Jyoti TM, u know the Radio Mirchi people, don’t u?

  7. Jyoti T M Says:

Last week, in Dharamshala, noted historian Professor Chandravarkar narrated at a meeting—In 1966, there was to be a grand cultural festival at Shimla to celebrate Himachals’ new statehood. From Dharamshala, the local adminstration sent a troupe of Gorkha music and dance performers to represent the district. Somebody in Shimla remarked are they Himachalis? The Chief Minister Shri YK Parmar publicly blasted the hell out of the offenders and also warned that in future nobody dare ever ever call the Nepali-speaking Himachalis as ‘foreigners’!
The Gorkha troupe went on to perform and outshone every other district’s peformance. Their peppy energetic outstanding Gorkhali performance created a major sensation in Shimla. Everybody only wanted to see them and they had to give repeat performances on public demand. Since then the Gorkha dance is a must in every Himachali function whether in local schools or colleges or state functions to the extent the performers also include non-Gorkhas dressed in Gorkhali dresses and singing in Nepali with madal and all.

Mr Buddhadeb Bhatta and all you learned WBengalis learn something from the ex CM of Himachal

  8. Jyoti T M Says:

This Rahul is the GM of radio Mirchi?
I think Rahul you ought to give an apology or else i am sending your comment to Mr Dhumal, the Chief Minister from Himachal Pradesh, the media and all to the HP Gorkha assns to direct a protest against you of defamation, antinational activities and character assasination.

  9. YK Shrestha Says:

Bhatta doesn’t have time for all that. Why, we don’t even have a Doordarshan which should have been exclusively for Gorkhalis. It’s bengali all the way. Just the other day, an announcement was made to open two new Colleges, both in Siliguri. Why not in the Hills? Shillong recently got an IIM, what about Darjeeling? There was a Rangers college in Kurseong and that was shifted elsewhere. There’s just a polytechnic there. Whatever development has been done in education field, it’s due to the efforts of the missionaries and not the WB govt.

  10. Jyoti T M Says:

And rahul I hope you also know that the present Himachal govt is BJP? They will hound you for attempting to create state disintegration.

HP is very proud of Rajeev Thapa who on the request of Aadesh Srivastava conceded to appear in this contest as rajeev Chamba because he is also proud of his hometown Chamba.

  11. YK Shrestha Says:

Yes Jyoti, he claims to be the GM (East) of Radio Mirchi based at Kolkata. I am wondering now how he could have become a GM. He claims his father was a planter. If that’s all true, he should have been a learned, sophisticated person. But, the way he is blogging, he is giving competition to the likes of Thebengali,Relay,Raja, Tatu etc. There used to be a sensible blogger “Pseude”, but he too is joining the gang these days.

  12. YK Shrestha Says:

    Barun,

Rajeev is contestant no. 24 and not 23, pls correct it in the banner.

  13. X-Man Says:

Just to chime in……..regarding the doordarshan for gorkhalis…a petition will be placed to the broadcasting minister on the 27th of July…..a lot of lobbying and convincing would be thereafter…but it is the begining.

  14. rahul Says:

shrestha daaju, fail to understand what riles you so much? my humble submission being thereis every rationale in gorkhas demanding a separate state stretching across the terai region of north india….by the same logic that you are demanding darj to be a separate state. that way it will include all gorkha majority areas in new gorkhaland….and your movement will get a pan indian flavour….isnt that what it is all about?? i don’t know if my dad being a planter is supposed make me a sophisticated person…but i’d prefer idf my parents are not brought into this argument…nor my profession…when i blog i do that as a person from north bengal….not as gm of radio mirchi. i’d rather suggest you open up a bit…becos right now you have blinkers on. if this makes me any less sensible….so be it.

  15. rahul Says:

and guys i do not need to prove my “progressive intellectual” credo to anyone…my sister in law is a chhetry from darj and my wife is an assamese….so the last thing i’m is being biased towards any particular community…..so instead of taking personal jibes….lets talk hard facts….i can devote an entire day…have a large enough team to take care of business for a day….

  16. Jyoti T M Says:

Rahul In the past you have made personal comments about fellow bloggers (several times)so you have no business to object to any mention of yours. You have introduced filth in this healthy line for garnering votes for a talented singer who has srtruggled very hard to reach the top 10 posn. All North Bengalis should be ashamed of the likes of you because you are giving a bad name to them. I have just returned from a travel and everywhere the Bengalis are getting infamous for their attitude towards the hillfolks. they say the Bengali intellectualism today stinks! And count yourself as one of the offenders responsible for it

  17. Jyoti T M Says:

I wonder if yr family knows about the secret blog world of yrs.

  18. X-Man Says:

@rahul… specially ur sister in law…oops!!!

  19. YK Shrestha Says:

Oh yeah Rahul, now changing the topic? Didn’t your earlier post was full of sarcasm? Did u say that honestly?

There’s a logic why people want Gorkhaland in Darjeeling, it’s because, that has been originally Gorkha area. We don’t intend to ask in HP or UK, because our people (mostly ex-servicemen and their progenies who have served their respective countries) there are settled and we are grateful to them (specially the HP govt)for giving us our due/respect unlike the bengali people (majority of them, excluding you) who have settled in Silgarhi and Dooars areas and are hell bent upon in proving that it belonged to them originally.

You need not let us know about your bhauju and wife too. We know how secular you are. If that was true, u would have little sympathy for the Gorkhas instead of riling against them.

Personal jibes apart, do justice to your work/position instead of wasting your employer’s time and money being wasted on you.

  20. Jyoti T M Says:

You hate Gorkhas so much that even a Gorkhali singer appearing incites you to make derogatory and communal remarks. Yr Nepalese sisterinlaw or assamese wife does not add to yr credentials to anything but a troublemaker of the national security level. I do not think yr sadistic tendencies is satisfied by yr job as GM or was it GJM? So you come and pick yr nose here

  21. rahul Says:

guys have your say but you fail to notice that the apathy towards gorkhas is not restricted to bengalis alone. have you seen the amway tvc….where they show a gorkha car washer? the creative director of that tvc is not a bong (i dnt mind being called one). i do hope you remember that when aarushi was murdered…the finger of suspicion was pointed at the “nepali domestic help” hemraj…not just domestic help…..well aarushi’s parents are not bengalis…nor are the delhi reporters who broke the story…so what are you talking about? why don’t you blame the entire nation for youe woes and lack of identity and stereotyping? i hope you guys are aware that rajeev thapa was a participant in the 1st sa re ga ma pa as well..the one won by debojit. what happened to his gorkha identity then? did you guys even know that he was a gorkha? then he participated in the sa re ga ma pa jodi thing….unfortunately he didn’t make far here as well. its only after prashant’s victory that he has started wearing his gorkha identity on sleeves…and you guys have only joined the bandwagon….i’m aware of my history and background…i doubt how many of you guys are? taking pot shots against me and my family will definitely not win you gorkhaland…you will end up losing whatever little support you have among people like me….

  22. YK Shrestha Says:

Support and you? Whom are you trying to fool?

Now, I can give you a list of bangaldeshi and bengali domestic servants who have been killing and bombing busy localities like Jaipur and all. You are lucky that you happen to be a hindu, so u might just escape.

A crime is a crime brother whether it’s nepali domestic servants or bengali domestic servants. You are deviating from the main topic. Talking about Amway ad, I really didn’t find that offensive, at least our people earn by hard work unlike the bangldeshis who are habitually seem to be criminals (u escape the noose because u r a hindu, lucky you:-)

We are aware of Rajeev Thapa being a contestant earlier and what do you mean to say that were we aware of his Gorkha identity? Sucks man!!

  23. Jyoti T M Says:

This Rahul reminds me of that Rosalin. Totally confused or a naturalborn chameleon.

I think that Amway ad was really very sweet. I applaud the creative director for that idea.

As for the aarushi case, pl know that a senior High Court lawyer has now taken up the case on behalf of Krishna free of charge. God knows whether we will ever know the truth (as in the Nithari Pander killings) but the cops and CBI is under flak for detaining and subjecting the ’suspects’ to forcible admissions and narco tests for now 55 days!

Gorkhaland will become a reality one day.
But You and yr fellowmen have generated so much hatred and insults that Bengal and the Northeast will bear the brunt of it in the future for a longtime. And consider yourself as the seed-’planter’.

Noone is interested in yr family. You yourself for the past few months have been thrusting yorself again and again as some pompous blueblood. Now we know why. By owning some plantation you have been brought up to believe that you are the owner of the Nepali-speaking tea garden workers. And like a typical planter (there are many of yr lost tribe) who lost his business to smarter businessmen God you are really crying for yr lost kingdom.

The time will come when the workers will be of a diff community. Only problem is that they will spoil the Darjeeling tea reputation because instead of nimbly plucking the buds they are likely to mix up all kinds of leaves and roots as they do not have any finesse.

And Rahul kindly refrain from making any more derogatory comments about Rajeev Thapa. You do not even know anything about him. You can keep fighting with me or Shrestaji. Othewise i hope I do not have to regret voting heavily for that adorable singer Aneek Dhar

  24. Arup Basak Says:

Guys, I do not see any reason why we are fighting over a trifle matter.

I think Rahul has un-necessarily poked his nose here. There was no need for him to poke his nose in this topic.

  25. Jyoti T M Says:

    Thanks Arup.

The platform of the Lux Junoon contest is very interesting becuase there are three kinds of music competing. The Sufis, the Folk and the Bollywood. All those who would like to see folk music going forward and those who love the mts please vote for that group. Rajeev has brought forward the lilting songs of the mountains—whwther it be Nepali or the beautifull folk songs of the lovely ancient state of Chamba and the Himalayan ranges of India.

So pl do vote for rajeev. Rajeev stands not only for the Gorkhas but for Himachal Pradesh’s folk music which is for the first time brought to a national platform by Rajeev Thapa from Chamba

  26. Prats Says:

  29. Prats Says:

Request for audio and lyrics both.
