French Republic Day celebrated at Puducherry

Puducherry, July 14 (PTI): Union Territory of Puducherry, a former French colony, celebrated 219th French Republic Day today.
French Consul General in Puducherry Joelle Rayet, Territorial Administration Revenue Department Secretary T M Balakrishnan, two French delegates from Puducherry (incharge of overseas French citizens in Paris Assembly) Tiru Ramachandran and Shankar Vazhumuny and office bearers of various associations of retired French military and civil service personnel were among those who had paid homage at the statue of ‘Soldat Inconnu’ (unknown soldier), on the premises of the War Memorial here, as part of the celebration.
The band wing of the Puducherry police played the Indian and French national songs at the venue. All French Government institutions and organisations here will have a holiday today in view of the French Republic Day `Fete National`, which is also celebrated as a national festival. Sadly, Goa has been completely overwhelmed by the Maharastharians. It will be a miracle that Goa will now be able to holds its own in the future.
