Army is now very hi-tech. Yr qualifiucations would be very usefull. Nano-warfare is the line of the future. Electronic computerised little beetles and other little creepy flying creatures will be the new army soldiers of the future for scouting and info collection on enemy terrain, controlled by remote devices.

Iam(female) reading in +2 & want to join Indian Army. I dont want to read medical nor engineering as not interested 4 it. iam interested in army. So, what subjects i shold take as my hons. subject that would help me to join army

  12. barunroy said

    Dear Miss Majhi,

Greetings from Darjeeling! If you are interested in joining the Technical wing of the Army, then it would be a good idea to have the pure Sciences as your subject (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). Remember if you have PCM, all the avenues are always open to you. If you have Arts then most of the avenue are closed.

    @ 11.

If U want to go join the army straight after your +2 then, u should take up the National Defence Academy Exam which is held twice a year. But, You will have to be good in Science and Maths to clear this exam. If u are poor in these subjects then, join a college after ur +2, enjoy the college life, freak out, but do pass ur graduation. While in college, join the NCC and try hard to get a C certificate. After your college, sit for the CDS exams in which ur NCC ‘C’ certificate will ensure that you get thru in the CDS exams.

    Cheers!

JTM the kind of thing that you are talking about is called bio-mimetics..the study of biologic structures and functions for the purpose of incorporating them into synthetic systems..perhaps an example would suffice..velcro that ubiquitous clingy contraption that you find in bags, shoes and what have you was invented by Swiss engineer George Mestral after he made a careful microscopic observation of the manner in which burrs got attached to his dog’s fur after a morning run (the burrs had tiny hooks that latched on to the loop of the fur)..there are lots of other examples too..kevlar from spiderweb is what comes to mind off hand..as someone from a design background you too probably know a lot about these things…
as for nanotechnology the future lies in the science of manipulating structure of matter in the meso-scale by external magnetic and electric fields as in the famous quantum dot fibre ..a technological application principle which by the way has already been patented..
anyway the lady will probably have to get into say the DRDO for that sort of research from a military angle..except that the structure of this organization is bureaucratic to say the least and hence perhaps not conducive to the kind of plans that one may have in mind…
anyway i am a pacifist so i would not know much about the army..anyway that’s just me..

dude, are you married? Or a hermit? But I am pretty sure your family life must be screwed big time with all the reading that you do. :D

unless ofcourse, you discuss casually quantum physics and scientology at dinner table.

Yet, find it amazing to read somebody who can quote instances/theories/findings/ from pshycology to bio-mimetics (whatever the hell it is)

Patley ko GL ka leader banaiye. Ham bhi jabardast sahara denge. Unless of course you are someone I already know who has been at the forefront on Delhi. Eeeeeeeeeeeeks.

  17. P Pradhan said

Pbku as a scholar/ critic, amazing! But as a leader…….. ummmmmmmmmmm. Leader is a person who is able to enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task. Elected head, on the other hand is quite different. Technically, JTMdi, you fit the bill of a leader. unfortunately, for me, the cause which you uphold and the one I cherish (as a Gorkhalander), differs. Differs is an unkind word,”not calibrated” would be appropriate.

#14,#15…in my own little way i try to make this blog lively and interesting without trying to step on too many toes..but then we are perhaps detracting from the intent of the original post..however since we are on it let me share you a small quote from the philosopher Thomas Hobbes who perhaps was rather prescient about the nature of debate that occurs in blogs when people post info from behind the anonymity of nicknames (me included, of course there are exceptions)..after observing all sentient beings he came to the conclusion that man was different from animals..well we know that..but his conclusion was based upon a rather different premise ..anyway..he said that one of the abilities that distinguished man from animals was “the privilege of absurdity to which no living creature is subject, but man only. And, of men, those are of all most subject to it that profess philosophy.”
by the way i am not from delhi..

Govt should stop recruting from Nepal immediatly. Govt must recruit from son of the soil , after verifying all the credentials.

  25. JTM said

Govt should stop recruting from Nepal immediatly.
    —————————————————-

THis is the mistake everyone makes. A Gorkha soldier is not an average Nepali. He is steadfastly loyal to his regiment and to the duty that he was sworn in for. He will die for it.

That is how a Gorkha (from Nepal or India) is different from a Nepali. They are not the same.

Even if Gl wrongly insists that all who speak Nepali are Gorkhas.

Tatu yr statement is gross insult to the Gorkhas of today, yesterday and tomorrow.

Gorkha is recognised as a soldier of any Gorkha Regt or to a family from such a soldier.

Till GL happens, Gorkhas are the soldiers and from the Gorkha soldier community. Period.

  26. tatu said

Govt should recruit all the soldiers from Indian, May be from Indian Nepali. Indian having huge unemplyment problem. After retiring from services they from GNLF etc like party (Ghishing) and call darjeeling a no mens land.also ex-army Alley, he is getting pension from indian army and giving training to a would be terririost organistion (GLP).

  27. JTM said

Indian Nepali? Will the Darjeeling boys join the Indian army as a tradition? Who will make up for the numbers? Darjeeling wants Gorkhaland but they do want to join the Gorkha Regiments as a first choice. Thet want govt jobs but not in defence but in civil.

Col Aley, BTW is not from the Gorkhas. He is form some othet Indian regt. Gorkha also join other Indian regst, I hope you know. They could be in artillery, armed corp, grenadiers, sappers, marathas, Sikhs, Rajputana anywhere.

The Gokrhas are the army’s INFANTRY division. Only the Gorkhas from the mts of Nepal have the tremendous physical stamina and endurance to take up the harsh challenges of Infantry.

I know what you are trying to get at, Tatu. That the GL movement has affected the image and regard for all Gorkhas.

  28. JTM said

Ghishing was a driver or something like that in the army and that too for a short while.

  29. JTM said

That is why he never uses or mentions his rank.

  30. tatu said

We all respect our armed forces. We all respect Gorkha Regiments for its valour and loyality. One of my class mate Maj Paul is a second in command in a Gorkha Battalion. I also know Field Marshal Manacshaw proudly called himself a Gorkha. Field Marshal also say ony Gorkha canont afraid of dead in any situation. But, this anti indian GJMM mixed Gorkha and Gorkahaland for their anti indian activites.

  31. P Pradhan said

    Ghising was “Les Nike”. :D

  32. tatu said

Maj Paul also told me ,there are thousands of Gorkha families in H.P. U.P. and Nepals whose family tradition is to join Indian Army in any capacity.

  33. JTM said

Absolutely right! At least tatu has understood the GORKHA family tradition.

Well. S Majhi, Sorry, you can not join NDA. It is only meant for the boys. One.

Second, if you do not like PCM, no problem. You do your graduation in any subject from UGC recognised Univ college and can join the army after clearing the CDS, SSB and making it to in the “Merit List”.

For Shivangi – the yeloow application form is to distinguish as to what type of commission you have applied for. If you ask the Army Headquarters, you will get the application form accordingly.

    Strike hits Darjeeling tea industry

SILIGURI: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha’s indefinite bandh since July 13 has seriously hit the tea industry in the region causing a whopping loss of Rs 1 crore daily.

“The industry (is) incurring a loss of one crore daily and a few gardens (have) started considering closure,” Secretary of the Darjeeling Tea Association Mr Sandeep Mukherjee told PTI.

Stating that it would be difficult to produce even 50 per cent of last year’s yield of 9.5 million kg of Darjeeling tea this year, Mr Mukherjee said that it would also adversely affect India’s credibility in the international market.

“If we fail to supply international buyers they will shift to other countries like Nepal and China. They are not concerned about our problems,” he said.

“The industry from the beginning of this fiscal has been plagued with problems one after another and the GJM bandh is the last nail in the coffin. If the bandh is not immediately called off many gardens would have no option but to close,” he said. – PTI
