SIKKIM: SNPP opens up ‘Greater Nepal’ front against SDF

Gangtok, February 2: In a sensational claim, Sikkim National Peoples Party (SNPP) president Biraj Adikhari today opened up the ‘Greater Nepal’ theater against the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party by accusing it of indulging in ‘anti-national activities’.

“In the last 7-8 months, 3 SDF MLAs including one Minister went to Nepal through non-authorized channels. One MLA stayed in Nepal for one month and he was contacted by Pakistan ISI. For what purpose they are touring Nepal. What are they doing in Nepal?”, said Mr. Adikhari in a press meet today here at Gangtok.

The SNPP president said that he will be going soon to New Delhi in a few days and seek appointments with the Prime Minster, Home Minister and chiefs of RAW and CBI where he will submit all his findings. “Three Sikkimese leaders including me were locked up in a police station for 24 hours on January 26. Somebody has to pay the price”, he said.

“I will give the names of those SDF MLAs who went to Nepal to RAW and CBI”, said Mr. Adikhari. He continued his allegations that the particular SDF minister had lost Rs. 30 lakhs while gambling in a Katmandu casino.

“The minister went to Katmandu where he lost Rs. 30 lakhs in a casino. A top Nepal media organization is helping us to get the footage from the casino. I will hand the tapes to RAW”, Mr. Adikhari said. This minister has also one flat each at Mumbai and Delhi besides seven buildings in Sikkim, he said.

“From where he is getting so much money? We will tell the Central leaders and they must take it seriously”, said Mr. Adikhari.

The SNPP president also claimed a Sikkimese hand in the recent ‘Greater Nepal’ issue raised by a group of protestors in front of the Indian Embassy at Katmandu on January 26. “We have information that among the protesters there were some seven to eight Sikkimese people. I have collected three names which will be given to RAW”, he said.

Mr. Adikhari further informed that he is presently drafting a memorandum to the Prime Minister and President of India. “Through this memorandum I want to highlight that Sikkim is heading towards a serious direction in the hands of corrupt SDF leaders. SNPP doubts that the Central funds for development of Sikkim are being used for antinational activities”, he said.

“We will demand that the Indian Army in Sikkim should be kept in a standby. One foreigner is taking Sikkim towards a dangerous end. Sikkim Police and Sikkim Armed Police should be sent back to their barracks. I have names of 20 such police officers including some IAS officers which we will submit to Delhi”, said Mr. Adikhari.

The SNPP president also claimed that a team from Nepal has arrived in Sikkim to assassinate few top opposition leaders including him. “One group from Nepal has come to Sikkim to liquidate me, Padam and Bhandari. My phone is being tapped and my movements closely monitored by State intelligence. There should be visible protection given to Padam and Bhandari. I will be protected by my Sikkimese people”, he said.

The SNPP president also slammed Chief Minister Pawan Chamling over the ‘dual citizenship’ allegations raised by BJP.

“We condemn the use of Sikkimese Nepali community by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling to counter these allegations. Don’t mix up the Sikkimese Nepali community in your personal issue”, Mr. Adikhari said. He added that SNPP working president Tseten D Lepcha has been given the responsibility to mobilize some 15000 people in Gangtok to oust Chamling this February.

Mr. Adikhari added that SNPP fully backs the Gorkhaland movement presently maintained by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) in Darjeeling.

“The party has also decided to support the Gorkhaland movement. I want to meet Bimal Gurung and for Gorkhaland, we must unitedly prick the conscience of the nation. We must be able to tell them that countless Gorkhas have sacrificed their lives for the nation since 1947 and the Indian Gorkha community must give at least a land of their own to bury their martyrs”, said Mr. Adikhari

“We will join hands with other Gorkhaland bodies to spread this message across the nation. There should two States for the Nepali speaking community of India. We will help GJM but won’t interfere in Darjeeling but concentrate in mobilizing support from all the States”, the SNPP president said.
