SIKKIM: SNPP forms ex-servicemen front

GANGTOK, March 2: The Sikkim National Peoples Party (SNPP) has formed a wing of ex-servicemen to ‘combat the erosion in the identity of the Sikkimese people by bringing awareness and pride about Sikkim’s rich hertiage’.
The wing, Sikkim National Ex-Services Front (SNESF) was formed yesterday during a meeting of the party where about 50 representatives of ex-servicemen from Sikkim Guards, Indian Army, all para-military forces, SSB and Sikkim Police, states a press release issued by SNPP president Biraj Adikhari.
An ad-hoc committee of the front was also formed headed by Kamal Khatiwada (ex-SSB) as its convenor and TN Dahal (ex-CRPF) as vice convenor.
The wing has been formed to give a ‘voice to the grievances of the numerous ex-servicemen in Sikkim’, Mr. Adikhari said. The SNESF shall be wing of the party and operate as an autonomous entity once the central body is formed, he said.
The SNESF’s primary objective will be voicing the grievances of ex-servicemen community besides working towards protection of Article 371 F and to combat the erosion in identity of the Sikkimese people by bringing awareness and pride about Sikkim’s rich heritage, the release states.
