New Delhi, June 8, 2009: Four North East Indian boys belonging to Naga tribes faced racial attacked in Pune on June 21, 2009. Four of them got injuries on body while one suffers severely with five stitches on forehead.

North East Support Centre & Helpline appealed to Dr. Abraham Mathai – Vice Chairman of Maharashtra State Minority Commission this evening and assured to speak to the concerned police official to look into the matter.

According to the sources reaching to North East Support Centre & Helpline, the incident happened on June 21 at around 11.15 PM at Salisbury Park, Pune, when two Naga students were returning home, two local men came on bike abused them with vulgar remarks e.g. Nepalis and chinkies. Both the students objected to the vulgar remarks and told them, “We are Indians.” After five minutes they brought 10 to 15 friends and beaten them severely with sticks. When alarm was made, two other Naga students living nearby came out to help the victims, who were also beaten severely by the mobs.

The police has not taken any action to trace the culprits after registering the case next day. Blaming the Australians for being Racists what a joke!!! What Mr. Nepali says is quite correct what goes around comes around.

The honest truth is that the Australians are not racists as most of the Indians that were bashed up were in the wrong place at the wrong time and does not tantamount to RACIST attacks but just young druggy punks after money and who better picking than Indians.

THE ATTACKS IN PLACES LIKE MUMBAI, DELHI AND NOW PUNE AGAINST US NORTH EASTERNERS ESPECIALLY THE ONES WITH MONGOLIAN FEATURES ARE DEFINITELY RACIST ATTACKS.

Its four stitches they got, how many Indians got killed by the Naga NSCN on racial grounds?

Compare how many nagas got shot in rest of India and how many rest of Indians got killed in Nagaland?

Indian govt should all the racist activities of Community Students’ Union like “Naga Students’ Union”.

Please see whats going on in Assam, millions of people are made to take refuge in refugee camps. In 70’s its was Bengalis in 90’s its Biharis who got killed in Assam.

To the above two people, please ask your Nepali brothers who are settled in places like Shillong for ages are being treated by organization like Khasi student Union. They don’t even allow Nepalis, Biharis, Bengalis, etc who have been living there for generations to get any govt. jobs. Its massive discrimination.

Do you mean to say Nagaland and India are two different countries? It seems you are the racist here. What the hell you means by Indians got killed in Nagaland and Nagas got shot in India. You are a bloody cheap rascal.

  5. JTM said

Considering that we also have a prestigious Naga Regiment in the Indian Defence Forces, it is appalling to hear India does not know who the Nagas are. The PM of India including Ministries of Culture, Education, etc should really take urgent note of this. I am getting quite sick of all these politicians picking on each other and back-stabbing each other in Parliament while the citizens are in identity crisis.

  6. YKS said

@3, MMM- For once, I completely agree with you. These lot are the most racists. Compared to that, we Gorkhas are much more tolerant, it could be perhaps because majority of us belong to Hindu religion which is supposed to be a tolerant in all aspects. I’m a Christian though, but I guess all the Gorkhas have that tolerant gene in our DNA.

  7. mr.nepali said

    @MMM

I asked my friends living in the north east, they said they are fine. Furthermore, they said, they receive more racial comments in other states compared to North Eastern states.

This chap does not seem to understand and know the difference between human excrement and cow dung. living and being within the indian boundary he does not have the idea of ethnicity and nationality. if such comments continue, separation of north east corner of present day indian union for their own homeland will justify. these nonesense people are the one who cause instigation, provocation even insurgencies. within the boundary of indian union regardless of colour, creed ,shape and sizes, languages born are all indian not only the black bugger like you. nagas are indian, biharies are indian, gorkhas born in india are indian if to be mentioned in most simpliefied tone.stop stupid comment you MMM.

    @6

will you care to define the hindu religion yks please?

  10. YKS said

@9, Why should I care to define Hindu religion to you? Go and read some book. I don’t share knowledge for free. Do u understand that?

  11. YKS said

@7, Mr.Nepali, go to NE and see how these people treat you. The only place where you are treated fairly is Assam and even there you will find some places where you are treated shabbily. We gorkhas, are the only people who are tolerant.

  12. mr.nepali said

    @ YKS

I have been to the north east and have enjoyed my time there though i did not stay there for years.
My friends are working there, they have been posted to different regions in India. North East is one of them.

  13. YKS said

@12,If you haven’t stayed there for long, then you don’t know anything brother. I am born and brought up there and I know how our people are treated in NE ( exclude Assam), even in NC hills of Assam, all the big businessmen were gorkhas and now they have all migrated to Darjeeling and some even to Nepal. Have you see how our people are treated in Meghalaya?
Nagas, Khasis, Arunachalis are the most racist community in the entire NE.

  14. layman said

Dear all, that’s our students get beaten to pulp in Australia by the foreigners !!!!

  15. layman said

    why

  16. mr.nepali said

    @YKS, that maybe your experience.

From my experience, the only racist comments that i have EVER come against is that from our very own neighbours – BENGALIS, forget about delhi, mumbai when our state itself discriminates. That too before GJMM started.

What i am trying to say is when there is so much racism here in india itself, why does india have to whine over racist attacks down over, there is so much indian media coverage for that. Its like – Indians down under have come across the word RACISM the very first time.

  17. mr.nepali said

    @Layman,

    Coming down under,

I have realised, there is some sort of identity crisis. We dont look like typical indians. Indian nightclubs here, sometimes invite only indian people. Forget that – when they look for housemates, they make it clear – only indian housemates required. Indians from gujarat have their own circle and dont mix too much with those from delhi.

I met an indian, i asked him – if he was indian for formality sake.
He says no, I AM A PUNJABI.

Indians dont believe us to be from india – they only thing that they know is – “ohhh, darjeeling tea, beautiful place”.

    there so much more….

And frankly, Aussies down under are one of the most warm hearted people I have come across.

  18. mr.nepali said

    Let me share something,

Almost 2 years, my first job interview.
There were 3 people, one from delhi, one aussie, one me(presumed to be asian).
The interviewers were a group of indians.
They came upto us, spoke in English and said – THERE IS ONLY ONE VACNACY, so DO YOUR PRELIM TEST WELL.
And then in HINDI, asked the indian guy where was he from.
He replied India, and then in hindi they started to have a conversation saying, Even i am from delhi etc. Missing the food etc. And then in HINDI SAID.
Yeh gora our chinki, formality ke liye test dega. Tum ghabrao mat, you will get the job( speaking to the indian who had come for the interview)………………………

  19. YKS said

@16, Only my experience? the whole of India knows that. Darjeelingeyes are too much in love with NE people. I have seen boys/girls literally licking the NE boys/girls. I have seen them exploiting Darjeeling boys/girls. Do you want me to elaborate this?

  20. YKS said

    @18, Good joke!

  21. mr.nepali said

    @YKS….

Not a joke, its a fact. a true story of a Darjeelingey in search of identity down under.

  22. mr.nepali said

The Taxi/CAB business is solidly dominated by indians. 99% indian taxi/cab drivers in sydney/melbourne CBD. sALARY – 4000-5000 AUD/MONTH.

Quite a few nepalis from darjeeling/kalimpong here – never got into taxi/cab industry. No asians in that industry. Reason : Indians hire indians only.
A friend of mine didnt get a job, cos they assumed him to be asian.

  23. YKS said

@21, If that’s true, that happens everywhere, so why to crib??

Don’t we misbehave with biharis, other Indians when they come to our place?

I remember how I kicked an elderly tourist when he was releiving himself near Chowrasta. I was young and brat. Going back, we could have just warned them not to relieve in the open. I regret doing that.

  24. mr.nepali said

There should be more representation of NEPALIS in indian media…..
Prashant, Kapil, Prakriti … have laid the foundation for this present generation.

  25. JTM said

Mr nepali is right. The indian comunity abroad have there own islands…Sikhs, Sai baba devotees, Gujeratis, Punjabis, malayalis, Bengalis, Nepalis, etc, etc. The trend began because the west also did not accept as the way they were..their culture, cuisine, etc. Some felt threatened by them. Language was also another barrier. people mocked their accents. There were eras of dot-busters, the Ku Klux Clan and many other racist outfits who terrorised them. They found their curry was smelly, etc. Now of course everybidy loves curry and poppadams.

Of course there are the non-community types who hang out according to their own social and professional fields. They are friends with all and all are their friends.

  26. JTM said

I have one question? Is being called a Nepali a racist abuse or called Chinki?

Many might disagree but NEasterners seem to get very annoyed at being called Nepali. Why?

I have a question for you, how many time you have visited Nagaland? How many Nagas feel that they are not Indian?

What I mean to say is the state of Nagaland and other NE states are full of org. that are racist and communal including the student unions. They state govts. are clearly discriminative in these state, and they also have absurd discriminative laws enacted in these states. Thats what amounts to racism.

If some hooligans beats up some Naga boys in Punes, does it amount to racism…. NO… if they get beaten up only because they are nagas than only it amounts to racism. Its cause of their ST status they get admission in good collages in India and its because they are christian they get admission in good Missionary colleges. So its its more privileges get outside instead.

I have personally been to Nagaland, most of the places one can literally feel that Indian govt’s non-existence there, NSCN runs a parallel govt. in the state, i guess thats the only place in India where a parallel govt. existence is present.

Calling Chinki is a racist remark, but calling Nepali isn’t a racist remark, people with less knowledge or by misunderstanding may call anyone with Mongolian features a Nepali. You too one day called mamata banerjee Nepali? Neplais living in nagaland may be thought to be Nagas based on their mongolian features… thats not racism, all communities living in India may be subject to such misunderstanding.

I feel racism = discrimination on the basis of caste, community, religion or race.

  43. Sanity said

    #37.
Looks like coincidence that you brought this up. The private companies have no way stopped hiring North-Easterners in the cities – in fact many prefer the NEs for they are much more non-complaining people. The BPO sector is flooded with people from Darjeeling and the North-East. You will not find a single BPO where a Darjeelingey is not working!

Now, to come to point, the government is framing a policy of affirmative action (simply called quota in India) for the private sector. This policy will certainly come into force within this term of the UPA rule, as both the PM and Sonia G. are strongly in its favor. Whether this is good for the people and bad for the companies only time will tell.

What YKS means that Hinduism is a tolerant religion. It does not insist on conversion neither does it call other religion practioners infidels or non-believers or lost souls to be saved.

Christianity and Islam entered the Hindu society at different eras and grew.

There was a sword or the Koran but never the sword or the Gita.

Everyone knows this so why should Yks or anyone have to explain basic ABCs just as most Hindus know the basics of Christanity including Protestants and Catholics and the difference between Shias and Sunnis.

Hinduism related comments began appearing on beacon AFTER stories related to Christian attacks in Orissa including all the Evangelistic notices started pouring in.. Has any Buddhist or Hindu or Muslim group posted any messages here. No Gorkha related stories earlier came in related to religion. Nepalis today follow the Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and Muslim faith. Now what if Gorkha Muslims start getting agitated becuse of non-Gorkha Mulsims being attcked somewhere. What if Hindus start getting agitated becuse of attcks on non-Gorkha Hindus somewhere. Then what is Gorkha abt us. Nothing.

I appreciate YKS cos tho being a Christian he has respect for all other religions his fellow Gorkhas follow.

So do I until of course fellow Gorkhas start shoving their religion against mine.

Yesterday there was panel discussion between Suhel Seth and the REligious united groups against gays. He said he was a proud Hindu but will not tolerate any religious group whether Hindus or others who will start dictating on his personal life especially in a case like this.

The subject is NE and Racism. I also lived in assam for sometime. The NE tribes had been very secluded from the rest of the world even India for quite sometime. naturally they were hostile to any others entering their domain. People are possesive abt anyone who enters their territory. But today really any Students Union who I assume are educated people should realise if they are forming a org to take care of their interests or to gang up against other communities. I have seen nepali families in NE treated like some slumdogs and outsiders while they were being used for their hard work. If you dont like them then do the dirty work yourself.

  61. JTM said

Thats my point why is being called a nepali an insult or vulgar remarks. or what for that matter even chinkies. kati hela garo ko chinky features lai. Chinky features lai aru ke bhannay? Chimsey? Cheptay? Neptay? phattay? If we stop feeling hassled abt chinky features which we have then the world will stop using it as a derogatory word.

I know of two families: One a south Indian one whose son’s name is Chinky because he has a flattish face.

Then there is rajesh Khanna’s younger daughter called Chinky Khanna cos as a child she had chinky features like her dad.

Now both the families would not have called their own children Chinky if they felt it was an insult. They find chinky looks cute and we bristle when we are called Chinkies.

Chinky Indians! I think that is rather cute.

according to my limited knowledge GITA is a part of MAHABHARATA. And you say there is no sword and Gita.

If somebody is illinformed, unread, ignorant, he needs to be taught. Jumping to conclusion is absolutely not a solution.

  66. JTM said

Hindus were asked to convert to Islam or be beheaded. The choice was either accept the Koran or the sword (to be killed). Nobody is jumping to any conclusions. There is a famous Gurdwara Shishgunj in Chandni Chowk Deli to a Sikh Guru who was beheaded for the same by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

This dark phase was rampant in Nn india under the various Muslim rulers so you would not know.

My point is never has someone been subject to a choice or being killed or becoming Hindu.

Hindus believe that one can only be born a Hindu, not converted.

A very deep rooted profound philosophy which connects man and where he was born, I say.

seem to be determined to make fellow Gorkhalis hate NE people.I suspect he is an Indian who is masquerading as a Gorkha..why even i can speak some Gorkha , i can act like one!I will try to expose YKS clever actings:

Q.1: “Vulgar words like Nepalis & chinkis”

answer:NE people never said Nepali is a vulgar word.It is the newspaper which reported it that way.

Q2 : Why NE people dont like to be called Nepalis & chinkis?
answer(i): for the same reason a Gorkha from Simikot or Dharchula will be irritated if his own countrymen in Kathmandu again & again ask him if he is a Bangladeshi or Pakistani, in addition to insulting him in other ways.
(ii): Gorkhalis must remember that Indians(not NE) think very low of Nepalis & the name “Bahadur or Nepali” is used by them(not NE) as equivalents of servants.

(iii)Chinkys: Chinky= Chinese (racist tag).We are from NE not china.Nobody calls another by a racist tag based on appearance in todays word, except India. It is NOT the same as saying Bihari or Mallu since these are regional names.

Q#3: is it true YKS statement NE very racist towards Gorkhas?

answer: Nonsense. There are tens of thousands of Gorkhas in NE who own lands, houses, businesses etc.Lots of Gorkhas married locals & local NE married the beautiful Gorkha girls.Gorkha MP from Tezpur Assam is one of richest man in NE.So how is it possible if so much racism??
There will be some friction between locals & immigrants(eg Gorkhas) over land, but that has nothing to do with Nepali race!!
