Dehradun: Doon Star scored a thumping 3-0 win over Bajrang Club at the District Football league here on Thursday. The 1/5 Gorkha Rifles defeated Yankees Club with an identical margin in the second match of the day.
A star-studded Doon Star had to face an early challenge from Bajrang Club at the Pavilion Ground. Bajrang Club caused frustration within the Doon Star camp by keeping the slate blank till the 29th minute of the game. Balwinder “Balli’ brought relief for Doon Star by scoring in the 30th minute by capitalising on a fine pass by Praveen Farasi. The winning team was leading 1-0 at half time.
The second half began with a bang for the Doon Star. Agile Tibetan footballer Gompo found the target in the 10th minute (second half) to enhance the lead, 2-0. Mohit converted a penalty to make the score 3-0 for the winning side.
Bajrang Club gave an improved performance on Thursday.
The 1/5 Gorkha Rifles had an easy outing against Yankees Club in the second match. Diwgain Upcha inflicted an early blow by scoring in the 3rd minute. The Army outfit, despite dominating the ball possession, failed to score due to poor finishing. The 1/5 Gorkha Rifles was leading by a solitary goal in the first half.
The first minute of the second half witnessed Khem Thapa neatly placing a ball to give the Army side a 2-0 lead. Ten minutes later, Rajendra Gurung scored the third goal for the winning side.
On Friday, Khukri Club will meet Uttarakhand Tigers and Doon Eagle will meet Doon Valley.
