I feel very sad most of the bloggers friend or foes have developed negative attitude towards present status of agitation. It is quite understandable what is written above but its an agitation guys, we have to learn from the mistake and should not distract people from ultimate goal. More over it is too early to condemn any incedent and we can not judge any incedent in isolation, its all chain reaction and we have to link with the ultimate outcome. My answer to that a region where a SKILLED tea garden worker is paid Rs 65 day contributing to a esteemed Indian Tea Brand DARJEELING TEA, is’nt it shamefull to call them anti-nationals?
These people are looked down upon as tea garden workers who have no right to expect a better life or seek social recognition. They have been depraved for years. Whether they came 200 years ago or 100 years ago they were honorably chosen and officially appointed for their work. But they are treated as a illegal migrant workers who are supposed to remain as slaves just like the colonial plantation owners did with the blacks.
While USA which brought in blacks as slaves, today has a president who is mind you 2nd generation American. His father was kenyan and still stays in kenya. While India still treats 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th generation Nepali speakers as foreigners.
The Gorkha soldiers. Their contribution to India is known to everybody. Yet wherever we reside in India from more than 200 years we are still regarded as outsiders. As long as we keep quiet and be subservient we are okay. Even in Utrakahnd and Himachal, Gorkha students in colleges, etc are still mocked as nepali foreigners.
When Bimal Gurung visited Uttrakhand (as an indian he has the right to go wherever he pleases)he was asked why are you wearing a Nepali dress? Are you trying to incite the local Nepalis to also do the same?
When he visited Himachal to visit the temples and other places of Gorkha heritage and gave an interview to a newspaper there (on their request)…Congress goons entered a local newspaper office to accuse them of reporting on someone who has come to create Gorkhaland in HP!!!!!!!!!!. The newspaper fended them off saying go read the article first. There is no mention of a GL in HP. This is the level of social racist goondaism!!!!! An Indian from Darjeeling cannot even visit another part of India without people showing muscle.
There is a deliberate attempt to erase out any contribution by Gorkhas. A 19th century Gorkhali Shiv temple in Dehradun which still has two old Gorkha mahants has been totally wiped off its heritage and rebuild and taken over by a Garhwali Congress MLA Hira Singh Bist who has had his name plastered all over the venue. His sytematic reconstruction today has led to a ASI report which says on investigation today there is no evidence of any old structure!!!!!!!!! All that is left now are photographs and refrence in books of the precious temple built by Gorkhalis.
The famous Bhagsunag temple in Dharamshala is being developed as tourist spot and resort. No importance to its heritage. Poor old Bhagsunag Shiva is now totally choked by tourist revellers. Except for the locals, very few even realise there is a temple in the premises and that the place is a holy shrine. Now the govt also wants to break the temple. Their argument Oh this temple structure has been influenced by Muslim style architecture we now want to make it more Indian????????
This is why I get annoyed with Mrs Sonia Gandhi. She is from Italy. But i find her sensitivity to minority issues (except the Muslims who matter where policies with Pakistan is concerned and of course collecting a mass Congress loyal votebank) totally nil. She heads the govt today (with of course PM Singh and Pres Patil)but is actually clueless about India except what she learned from her mother-in-law and the party.
The chinese are another community in India who I see are also being called foreigners. They came when there was famine and drought in their region. The british brought them here to employ their skills for hand crafts and hard work. They were employed as furniture makers and fine quality shoe makers. the next gen saw them providing much of the dental surgeons and restareteurs. When they came very few recognised their religion and other culture factors so they remained introverts. A Chinese friend’s famly lived in Gujerat. When she and her sisters went for admission to a school, their religion was not recognised and ws entered as Christian. The family went through school and college through the constant glare of all. What was binding was the father’s confidence and self-respect. Eveyone found their names just do funny. Anyway, one sister with her Chinese name won the best Dandia dancer in the annual City Navratri festival.
Today they have all gone off to Canada just like all the AngloIndians went off to Australia. Because India is only for a specfic kind of Indians. Can anyone elaborate on what exactly is this kind?

Just see how they are apprehensive about your leader’s visit to North India although unlike Darjiling, most of the Nepalis selltled there are original inhabitants of that place.
Please also compare other parameters: In WB we have 3 Nepali MLAs. How many lawmakers of Uttarakhand & Himachal are of Nepali origin? But, of course yes, we have accomodated in different parts of our India, but never tried to snatch the palce from the people of that state e.g Assam. 1) Gorkhas are mentioned as amongst the communities of the state. This aspect is lacking in any WB tourism or any other promos on the kalchar of WB
2) There is no parochial overbearing lot as the Bongs there with insufferable mentalities which produce organisations like Bangla O Bangla Bhasha Bachao Commitees
3) No minister has says Nepalis are foreigners, They have enough sense to know the diffrence between Indian Nepalis/Gorkhas and Nepalese
4) They are proud of their Gorkha soldiers who have brought much esteem to their states. Are you’ll proud of the Indian Army soldiers and officers from darjeeling district? No yiu beat them up without an apology. You dont even know how many gallantry award winners there are from North bengal. You are not proud of those who built the world famous Darjeeling tea brand. Any other country would have declared the tea gardening community heritage status.
5)Every unskilled worket gets at least 120/ per day. WB pays only 65/- to a skilled tea garden worker
6)HP and Uttarakhand have recognised Gorkha heritages. Check Gorkha castles on HP tourism site. Of course more can be done.
My refrences were purely towards how politicisation and commercialism is ruining heritage sites, social harmony and encouraging communal separation
7)The second HPite to be recommended for an Indian postal stamp was a Gorkha
9) Despite the Gorkha rule both Utrra and HP give due respect to the Gorkha history of the era. Even in the HPtourism palatial resort in Chail, the hotel in its pamphlet mentions that Chail was under the Gorkhas.
10) At kangra Fort, from where the Kangra rulers ruled and lost, acknowldgement has been given to how the Gorkhas managed to lay seige for 4 years around the most impenetrable and difficult fort in the region
11) schools have been named after Gorkhali war martyrs..Amit Thapa Govt School, Sidhbaari, Dharamshala. This 21 year old rfleman died fighting off terrorists in an encounter where he was shot repeatedly but yet did not budge out of their hideout and managed to kill sevral of the terrorists till he died.
So many soldiers from Darjeeling district have also died fighting for India. Has WB acknowledged even one of them?
Ghoom. jalpahar and lebong are imp recruiting centres for the Gorkha Regts. How many Bengalis know of their importance?
12)WB plays this intellectual rule over others making them feel like fools. HP or Uttra does not do that.

5. I thought I would get some info about the powers (political, Govt & Private sector Jobs etc.)the people of Nepali origin enjoy in those Nothern States in comparison to Bengal. But, what I got is rebuke for our inability to print pricture postcard & erecting architectural pieces showing Nepali culture.
If our politicians only knew that such superficial gestures are regarded as more worthy than the thousands of Govt jobs & political influence, then they must have thought otherwise.

After they helped annex Punjab, they demanded battas. they were told Punjab was now part of British India and they cannot get battas for it. battas only for a foreign expedition and back. The 66 th Bengal light Infantry mutinied, they were dismissed and their colours wre given to HOLD Yr Breath, the Goorkhas from the 1st nasiri battalion and renamed the 66th Goorkhas Light Infantry (1850). The 66th Goorkhas later was named the 1st Gorkha Rifles, forerunner to the 11 Gorkha Regts in the world today including india and UK.

Your ‘keensmen’ did not refuse they were expelled and replaced by what were considered by better men for the job. bengali soldiers did join the British army far and wide but lost their colors (a regt to their name.. The poorbaiyas (Bengalis) played a major role in fighting for the British in 1857.

You are missing the point. YKS was saying that the British rule started in Bengal. Had they not got a firm footing in Bengal, they could not have launched their expansion to other parts of India. Bengal provided that solid support for the British. And it appears that the British recruited the people from Bengal first in their army (before anyone in India). That they went on the capture Punjab for the British proves that they were as guilty of helping the British as anyone. Also, that those men were dismissed from the army for demanding more money gives an indication that they would have done anything for money – they would certainly have been on the Britrish side in the Jallianwallah Bagh.

0 out of 10 to you for that. No king of nepal or CIC was defeated. They had a ceasefire brought in by the Treaty of Sugauli. No treaty is signed with a defeated foe. Their empire is taken over and the king beheaded or imprisoned.
The gorkhas made a treaty with the Brits or vice versa. You keep this and we keep that kind of thing and we remain friends and dont fight anymore.
