    Thank you for your comment Akhilesh and Welcome to Beacon Online. Since you are a student studying in Kolkata and since we are practically family – I am a hybrid with a Nepalese mother and a Bengali father, there is no need to use such prefixes as Mr. You can simply call me Barun. It is good to know that you are doing well in your studies. We need a lot more guys like you. My best wishes. I started this site because I wanted to do something for Darjeeling Hills. My most important objective is to have our aspirations resonated all over the world not just among our community but among all humanity. I would be much obliged if you could participate on the many discussion that takes place in this site. I would also be greatly obliged if you could send articles, essays and write ups touch Gorkha/Nepali life to be shared with all our friends. Please to keep in touch.

    Its nice to see that you are enocouraging the general public to share their voice;Though we are busy with our corporate world but I do take a few moments to glance through the reviews and comments made in your blog;I too have kept history of darjeeling from pre independence with dates mentioned even the number of days the pakistani flag was fluttering in capital hall;The rape of the nurse in kalimpong,the letter to the govt by her sister the than Ambassador of India to Panama.The first meeting and movement in sukhia pokhri before GNLF,I was just a student then but even then I would love to take note and interact with leaders ;My last meeting with Mr ghisingh was in 2002 in LalKothi but now Im just left with history and my corporate world,so thanks for youe news high lights;

    Anyone for Gorkhaland has some points. Respect it. But so does many who aspire for Lepchaland and Bhotialand. How these people will be satisfied with a single Gorkhaland when there can be at least three more lands for ethnic communities who deserve better than Gorkhas?

    very interesting blog,though being away from home so good to get informed wats happening in very streets of darjeeling. i have always been a stong supporter of “GOrkhaland” and glad to hear that history is again being repeated and the gurkha plans are now cuming in atcion. but sharing my personal analysis of darjeeling for many years i would like to mention my own comments. Gorkhaland movement started since 1989 and there were lots of bloodshed, brothers of the same house fought with each other,GNLF banners all over darjeeling and all the matyrs which we lost could have cum to play right now in a peaceful way. This was the time i guess we can term in darjeeling’s history as ‘DRAINAGE OF WEALTH’ wealth that could had given us a good fortune till now. the major wealth which we lost was the youth and the effect of it can be seen till now. this was the war where we not only lost our demand for gorkhaland but also the youths.this was the time where darjeeling began not only to be flooded with bloodshed but with drug addicts as well. we can still see the youths till now in darjeeling loittering around with all the low waiste pants taking drugs and all kind off vices at most streets of darjeeling. Its not that iam against Gorkhaland but i guess before offering our demands for darjeeling we need to clear out things from our sideas well. coz i guess is the reason behind the demand for gorkhaland(even if we are not ready to accept the fact) is bcoz of our inferior complex. are we afraid to compete with rest of the world, or is it that all the unemployed youths from the countryside and the town just needs a reason to live and to be proud of atleast that they have done sumthing important in their life by helping the gorkha movement irrespective of the fact that they are still unemployeed. 2) THE next factor and the major one is dat there is still so called “CASTE SYSTEM” prevailed in darjeeling. people like untouchables still exist in darjeeling, SO HOW CAN WE DREAM OF GORKHALAND WHEN WE STILL HAVE DIVISIONS WITHIN US? things like inter-caste marriage,separate worship of gods,and the like are still there in darjeeling. there was recently pujas setup by different communal groups in darjeeling in chourasta.IF WE HAVE DIFFERENT GODS, DIFFERENT CASTES THEN HOW CAN WE DREAM ONE GORKHALAND FOR ALL OF US? HOW CAN WE PROVE THE INDIA AND THE WORLD THAT WE ALL ARE THE SAME PEOPLE DEMANDIND FOR ONE GORKHALAND WHERE WE ALL CAN STAY IN PEACE.I DONT THINK THAT THINGS ARE GOING TO BE CHANGED EVEN AFTER OBTAINING THE STATEWOOD COZ NOMATTER HOW PEOPLE ARE BEING EMPLOOYED AND WE HAVE OUR OWN UNIVERSITIES IN DARJEELING AND THE LIKE THERE WILL STILL BE DIVISIONS WITHIN US AND AS A RESULT THERE WILL BE DEMAND FOR THINGS LIKDE CHETTRILAND, BHAHUN LAND,LEPCHALAND. I personally think that WE SHOULD MAKE OUR SELF ONE AND FOLLOW ONE GOD COZ THERE IS ULTIMATELY ONE DIVINE ENEVR THAT IS THE SUM TOTAL OF UNIVERSAL ENERGY”THE GOD” NOT JUST BY WERAING TRADIOTIONAL CLOTHES BUT BEING TRADITIONAL BY HEART. i guess we shud work in caste system, have public awarness that this is 21 century WE HAVE SLEPT ENOUGH AND NOW ITS TIME TO WAKE UP!!!!—JAI GORKHA

    I think many begalis may want the seperation from bengal,it might be due to the ignorence of kolkata based polictics.But they are having the problem with the name “GORKHALAND”…may be due to somany reasons,egos,emotions and so on.
    IT may be useful(all the political or non political parties) to have a discussion on same plateform to take a joint,and clearcut strtegy for further movement other wise even if establishing gorkhaland so far problems must be there may be in a different shape.And we have to change the name”gorkhaland”…it might be”uttarakhand” or what ever but not the “gorkhaland.It may solve the inter COMMUNAL problem in evry “CASTE”.

    After the successful completion of the traditional dress wearing month, where we all people from the Darjeeling Hills donned our Dawra Sural etc, a point has been made. That we are traditionally different from the others. Now what next? We have changed our Number Plates, Sign Boards etc. Next I call upon all true followers and die hard enthusiasts like self to do the following for our independence/autonomy etc-
    1. As continuation of the old theme of dress wearing, we Gents should all wear only Half Pants this coming winter. Ladies may like to show their solidarity by wearing tank tops etc rest input will be provided by the naree morcha. By this wearing of our half pants we would have proven two main things, first how truly unique we are (who would wear half pants in winters) and secondly we would have proved not only to these INDIANS how tough we are but would have set an example to the entire world that we mean business.

    2. Second we should stop eating all these Pizzas, Hot Dogs, Burgers also everything not truly Gorkha like Tandoorie Chicken, Shahiee Paneer, Momos even etc should all be banned. Further these restaurants selling such food will be forced to make hence forth only such traditional foods like Keenama, Gundruk, Seeshnu. These Pizzas and Momos which are not our traditional food have corrupted our stomach and brains. Glanerie’s will stop making pastries and make laal pathar and serve DHEERO. Benis should throw away making all that Indian sweets like Rasmollhai, and Julabee, hence forth only Lal Pathar it shall make.
    Even Warlies will stop making its zeera biscuit and make only our traditional (I don’t know, what ever our ancestors used to have with tea I guess).

    Reading these two paragraphs you may be wondering whether to take it seriously or laugh it out. To me it just dosen’t matter. The way I see it is this. Somebody tells us what to wear and we follow it un-questionably. Few who have the intellect or courage to stand up, are quickly stifled in full public and we simply play mute. You are told what to wear, when to work ( Strike – All will close shop, no school etc) what your number plates will be, etc, so how should a little in convenience like wearing Half Pants in winter matter to you.???
